The Top 4 Mistakes To Avoid

When Building Technology Into Your Home

Today when selecting home technology products the selection can be so overwhelming that a you can spend a great deal of time and money and still not get the capabilities and / or quality you were after. With purchases often running well into the thousands of dollars; avoiding some of the more common mistakes can save time and money in the long run.

1. Failing to Plan = Planning to Fail!

If you are building a new home or buying and are in the design / planning of your construction project now is the time to Plan. Although many builders have become technologically savvy over the past several years, don't make the mistake of taking their expertise for granted.

Insist that the installed cable plant meets established performance standards. To identify how much technology you might need before you start your construction work get your Free on-line Consultancy here .

So If your builder looks like a possum in the headlights when you bring up this topic, or says something like the old classic  “Our electrician can run any kinda' wire you want.” Be concerned . . . be very concerned.

Electricians are typically very professional folks who are experts at what they do , but few have invested the time and expertise required to learn the ins and outs of todays complex technology solutions that use many different technologies such as low voltage wiring, home networking, audio/video distribution, and home automation, etc .

Now is the time to get this right! Pre-wiring a home before the finished walls go up is cheaper than retro fitting the same house later . . . often by a factor of five or more. If in doubt, run the wire during construction and install the associated systems later.

2. Avoid Initial Wiring Mistakes!

There are a number of “accepted practices” in the building industry that no longer meet today's requirements that do not come close to handling today's requirements for systems like DSL, cable modems, high definition television , and systems that require high bandwidth, low noise wiring installed in a “home run” fashion with each outlet connected via a dedicated circuit back to a distribution centre typically a smart-cabling closet . Click Here for a Pictorial Example of a typical Smart Home Overview.

Are your eyes glazing over yet? Just be aware that there are a number of issues associated with wiring your home that will have a profound effect on the future performance of your technology and communications systems in years to come potentially affecting the future resale value of your home.

3. WAF - W- A - F?

Not another acronym, you say? Well, pick up any home theatre/home automation magazine and you won't be able to avoid this one for long! It stands for “Wife Acceptance Factor”, but it's actually a gender-neutral term referring to an often overlooked concept. We must be able to live with our technology. I know it sounds a little new age, but it's a fact that ugly equipment and / or systems that only one member of the family is able to use, are simply unacceptable.

HAI Smarthome Automation voted most user friendly solution!

Remember, you'll be living with this gear for years to come so please feel free to use the Free on-line Consultancy  to identify how much Technology you require before you agree to who carries out the work!
